On behalf of the Northwest Badminton Association (Region 4 - USA
Badminton*) and
Washington State Badminton Association, I am writing to request
your support for the upcoming
Classic tournament on October 08–10, 2004. Your support will help us
to develop junior
badminton in the Spokane area and to help the careers of potential
Olympians who may one day
come from the Spokane area. We currently operate an active youth
badminton program and each
year the program grows stronger as more people “discover” the sport.
Some of our young athletes
have won state championships in their age groups, and all are
learning life skills on the court.
There are only five Classic series tournaments in the U.S. every year
and Spokane has been given
the tremendous opportunity this year to host a Classic series
tournament. This tournament attracts many of the national team
members and potential Olympians and we anticipate that many of these
top-level athletes will play in our tournament as they begin to
prepare for the 2005 World Championships in Anaheim and the 2008
Olympics. It should also be noted that this is the first time in
history in which the World Championships will be held in the US.
Badminton is the second most popular sport in the world and has
usually been the first sport to
sell out at the Olympics since its inception in 1992. We are
expecting close to 200 participants
and we want to educate the American public about the sport of
badminton, its uniqueness and its
life-long benefits.
Sponsors may submit banners, posters or publications to be displayed
at the venue and sponsorship could be in various forms ranging from
in-kind donations to financial support. (Checks should be made out to
WSBA if claiming a 501(c)3 deduction.)
All banners and posters will
be displayed in the gym for the three full days of the tournament.
Additionally, sponsorship recognition will also be provided on the
official website (northwestbadminton.org) and on all registration
forms.
Thank you for your consideration with the development of badminton in
Spokane and the USA.
Please contact Shashi if you have any further questions at (509) 242-9285
or via the email address at
the top of the page.
