The 2005 Junior National Badminton Championships
On July 5th,
231 players descended on Sports USA in the Spokane Valley to pick up their
registration packets and get a feel for the spacious gym. On 13 courts over the next 5 days, those players competed in 795 matches
for the championship titles in 33 events.
The facility was very functional for the players
with no outside windows, gray walls, and visqueen covering the few obstructive
lights.
The volunteers were dedicated and hardworking, and
they received many well-deserved compliments.
The Juniors’ Ken Davidson Award was announced
at the players’ dinner—congratulations, Samantha Jinadasa. Also,
the Debbie Brown Award was announced—congratulations, Dick Ng.
Spokane is proud to have had the chance to host
the players and their families. We thank all of the volunteers, sponsors,
and officials who made it possible to present this event. It would not have
been possible without the tireless efforts of many individuals, all of whom
comprised one amazing tournament team. Next year, the tournament will return
to OCBC; we can’t wait to see where it will go for 2007.
