600 Play World Masters Games in Edmonton

The World Masters Games were held in Edmonton, Alberta July 21-31, 2005. There were 21,000 participants in 27 sports, 600 of whom were badminton players. In the sport of badminton, team competition was held the first four days, followed by six days of individual competition. The Pacific Northwest entered a 70-79 team, which consisted of Co-captains, Joyce Jones and Jack Harvey, Denise Coates, Marion Harvey, Claire Bowyer, Jim Bosco and Jim Duberry. Team competition consisted of 1 men & women's singles, one men & one women's doubles team and one mixed team. Our team won the Gold, defeating 2 other 70's teams. One other PNW player, Sylvia Hatton, played on the team who won the Silver. In the individual events, Claire won Gold in 70D & 70 mixed, Joyce won Silver in 70 singles and Bronze in 70D with Sylvia, Jack won 80S, and 75D with Jim B., and Jim also won the 75S. Denise Coates won Gold in 75S & Mx with Jim B. The WMG are held every four years. The previous ones have been held in Toronto, Denmark, Brisbane, Portland, and Melbourne. The next one in 2009 will be in Sydney.

4th Annual Lilac City Tournament in Spokane

Spokane will be hosting the 4th Annual Lilac City Badminton Tournament on Sept 30 - Oct 2, 2005. If you have any questions, please call Eric Lee (509) 534-2047.
